Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Outlook Next Three Days

For late this afternoon and tonight:

Friday afternoon and night:

  1. Hey Mike - question on this type of chart (noticed this last night looking at them and figured I'd ask you) - I live in the middle of Illinois - I look at these and say 'Thursday it's just to the left of me - Friday it's just to the right of me - so... it just goes over me without a risk?' - that is to say - if it's moving east - I kind of expect an elevated chance over mid Illinois - but I have no idea when based on the risk maps put out - other than guessing Thursday night.

  2. The thunderstorms tend to weaken during the night, thus the severe weather threat appearing to jump over you. Thanks for the question.

  3. After the recent Quapaw, OK and Baxter Springs, KS tornado event, I am just glad that the weather office in Springfield, MO has pretty much ruled out tornadic storms with this next system. Unfortunately though we still could see large hail and damaging straight line winds. :(
