Happy Birthday, National Weather Service

National Weather Service instruments at Upton, NY (NYC office) this morning
NWS turns 143 today. It provides forecasts and storm warnings to the public at large and most of the critical infrastructure upon which all meteorologists depend.

The just-ending Northeast Blizzard shows important their work is. I have no doubt a number of NWS meteorologists slept in their offices so they would be available to work during this storm.

While this post is primarily about the NWS, I also want to make everyone aware of all the broadcast meteorologists who slept away from home so they could provide vital information during this storm.
