Winter Storm Update

From AccuWeather, here is a map of the predicted snow amounts. Keep in mind that in many areas, the snow will be accompanied by high winds with gusts in the 35 to, in some cases, 50 mph range. This will cause considerable drifting of the snow.

To help you gauge the timing of the storm, here are two forecast maps that break it down. These are the probability of 2" or more accumulation.

Now until 6am Wednesday

6am Wednesday to 6am Friday

There is more to this storm than just snow. Here is a map of NWS watches, warnings and advisories. Some comments below the map.

The brown in the southern High Plains and Rockies is a high wind watch and the red are "red flag" warnings because of the high probability of wild fire conditions. Blowing dust and wild fires are possible tomorrow in the brown high wind watch region.

Pink = winter storm warning. Green = blizzard watch. The blue areas around Denver and from central Kansas to Lake Michigan are winter storm watches.

I will have an additional update later today on this storm.

I also hope to have an update mid- to late afternoon first look at what could be an even bigger winter storm for Christmas week.
