Attention Golf Announcers

The PGA Tournament is in a lightning delay at the present time. Good move! The dark red echo moving over the course has lightning in it.

However, whenever these delays occur, the television announcers refer to the storms as moving the direction of the ground-level winds. Storms rarely move the direction and speed of the ground-level winds. Usually, storms are steered by the winds between 10,000 and 13,000 ft. above the ground.

In this case the winds were blowing onshore (blue arrow) before the storms approached. The storms are moving northeast (orange arrow), a completely different direction than the ground-level winds.

ADDITION: It is radar not "satellite" that you are describing. Here is the 6pm EDT radar with the storms' direction of movement indicated by the blue arrows. I think it is unlikely they will be able to get the golf restarted before it gets dark.
