Two Northeast Tornado Watches...
UPDATE: 3:05pm. Hook echo (circled) west of Worcester, MA moving east (arrow). A hook echo is a radar indication of a tornado.
ORIGINAL POSTING:
Tornado watches...in effect from northeast Maine to Philadelphia, including NYC and Boston.
The northern watch:
The southern watch:
I'm concerned about the storms in western Massachusetts and southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire. There has already been a tornado warning issued for the cell near Northhampton, MA (purple polygon). Additional tornado warnings may be needed. Keep an eye out in the tornado watch areas this afternoon as these storms move east.
Also, severe thunderstorm watches (≥1" diameter hail and/or 60mph winds or more) are out as far south as Richmond.
