Lazy Reporting

Heavy snow surprised the South? I expect better from the Wall Street Journal...

Here is the headline on this blog Friday. The storm struck Sunday night and Monday:
Of course, more than 2,000 flights were cancelled and the area was crippled -- but the weather was almost exactly as forecast. Unfortunately, the mayor of Atlanta,  chose to blame the meteorologists rather than taking responsibility for inadequate snow clearing equipment:
Once the mayor said the storm "beat the meteorologists" the newspaper reporters ran with that rather than checking to see what was actually forecast.

I wrote Warnings to tell the story of how good meteorology has become at saving lives and property. While we certainly are not perfect, the level of quality has risen to where we consistently provide excellent guidance in storm situations.
